This is the story of the Grand Canyon Elk rut.
First this big bull walked right by our campsite.

Then this guy walked around far behind us and started drinking runoff
from a water fillup station and when he heard an Elk bugle he walked off
to fight the other Elk

We followed the Elk that heard the bugle and he lead us to an entire
Elk herd, cows and bulls. We heard a big crack and we new it was Elk
locking horns. We saw this guy with little antlers come out of the woods
huffing and puffing and panting.

The little Elk ran back into the woods and then got chased out by an even bigger
Elk! Once he ran across the street and walked away we couldn't find our way back to the RV.
We had walked to far away to observe the Elk rutting. That was our observation of the Rocky Mountain Elk rut.

  1. Drew! These are great pictures of the wildlife you encounter on your amazing adventures! Thanks for sharing. I loved the story about the Elk rut, as well. That would make a cool picture book.

Keep observing, snapping and sharing! I look forward to cool animals from the Virgin Islands - maybe some tropical birds?!
